The successful incumbent for this position will be hired within an annualized salary range of $67,913 – $90,550, depending on qualifications for the position. The maximum in this pay scale is $113,189.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Customer Engineer I, under supervision of the Distribution Engineering Supervisor, conducts engineering and technical activities concerning existing and proposed electrical services, rebuilds, relocations, and new installations of electrical distribution and fiber communication systems. Specific responsibilities include design, work order preparation, and material selection.

This position is subject to a one-year probationary period.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·       Manage routine customer engineering electric and communication projects by designing and preparing work orders, preparing drawings, and obtaining easements and permits as needed, ensuring high quality and economical solutions.

·       As assigned, assist other Customer Engineer(s) on customer distribution projects.

·       Provide construction support to customers using District construction standards, performing field surveying and staking, material control, and following work orders to completion.

·       Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining system mapping. Prepare accurate as built drawings for District records.

·       Work closely with other agencies such as Douglas County Transportation and Land Services and Washington State DOT to coordinate projects and obtain permits.

·        Support the District’s mission and value statements in the performance of job duties.

·       Work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse groups of people and maintain professional interactions at all times in the workplace.

·       Ensure compliance with all District policies, including the District’s Safety Policy and Procedures.

·       Operate District vehicles that may be equipped with a GPS device that monitors vehicle location while conducting business on behalf of the District.

·        Other duties as assigned.

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions between this position, employees, customers, and other members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent, on-site attendance while working independently and with others.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

·       Computer skills in Microsoft applications and network environments.

·       Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of AutoCAD using two-dimensional tools.

·       Ability to work in a professional, efficient, and cooperative demeanor with the public and fellow employees.

·       Demonstrated ability to communicate using oral and written communications with customers and co-workers in a clear, concise, and courteous manner.

·       Preference will be given to those applicants possessing an understanding of electrical construction standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree relating to engineering. At least 4 years of work experience in an electrical distribution engineering capacity may substitute for a degree. Strong preference will be given to candidates possessing an Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

CERTIFICATIONS:

·       A valid driver’s license and proof of good driving record is required for this position (will be verified upon job offer). Out-of-state candidates must acquire a Washington State driver’s license within 30 days of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or twist torso; pull, push, or exert force; perform repetitive hand or arm motion; talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds above shoulder height unassisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work is performed primarily in an office environment, but the employee may occasionally be exposed to wet, humid, or cold conditions. The noise level is usually moderate.
