Overview

Truckee Donner Public Utility District is a customer-owned electric and water utility, governed by locally elected Board of Directors, located in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains 15 miles north of Lake Tahoe in Truckee, CA and nestled in what has been named the best ski town in North America. Truckee Donner PUD provides sustainable, reliable, and high-quality water and electric services to over 13,000 electric customers and over 12,500 water customers in greater Truckee, a service area of 45.5 square miles.

Electric Department

The electric operations department is responsible for operating, maintaining, repairing and expanding our electric distribution system. The department has a responsibility to provide effective and efficient maintenance and replacement programs and to provide effective, efficient and safe operations.

The Position

The Electric Engineer I/II performs a variety of professional engineering tasks within the framework of established standards, policies and sound engineering practices; works with the public, District staff, other agencies, and consultants to review and develop engineering designs, specifications, and cost estimates for the construction of overhead and underground electric power distribution projects; prepares applications for required permits; and ensures compliance as well as provides direction and information on District standards, policies, and procedures. Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Electric Engineer I

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering* with emphasis on power systems from an accredited college or university; and,

Experience: Equivalent of two years of professional-level utility or consulting engineering experience.

Substitution: A State of California Engineer-In-Training certification may be considered in lieu of the experience requirement.

Electric Engineer II

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering* with emphasis on power systems from an accredited college or university; and,

Experience: Equivalent of four years of professional-level utility or consulting engineering experience.

Substitution: An Engineer-In-Training with the State of California may be substituted by two years of required experience.

*Depending on relevant or qualifying experience, other engineering degrees may be considered.

License and Certificate

Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.

Electric Engineer I

Certification as an Engineer-In-Training with the State of California or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
This position is required to obtain registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer with the State of California within a five-year period. Registration is required to obtain the top step in this classification.

Electric Engineer II

Possession of a Professional Electrical Engineer registration with the State of California or ability to obtain registration within one year if current registration is held in another state.
