Summary: Trims trees to clear right-of-way for electric power lines to minimize storm and short-circuit hazards by performing the duties listed in the job description.
Some essential duties and responsibilities include: Climbs trees to reach branches interfering with wires and transmission towers. Prunes treetops. Repairs trees damaged by storm or lightning by trimming jagged slumps and painting them to prevent bleeding of sap. Removes broken limbs from non-energized power line wires. Fells trees interfering with power service. Loads trees and branches to haul away and runs chipper to dispose of limbs and branches. Responsible for making sure all properties where trimming has taken place are left clean and in as near to original condition as possible. Works from bucket of extended truck boom to reach limbs.
Line Clearance certification through ACRT or comparable required. ISA Certified Arborist preferred. Must hold or be able to obtain, within 30 consecutive days of hire, a valid Montana Class A, Interstate Commercial Driver’s License. First Aid and CPR certificate required. Must be a certified flagger. High school graduation or equivalency and 3-5 years of related experience. Mechanical aptitude, training or experience preferred. Must have experience in felling, climbing and trimming trees and clearing right-of-ways. Must know how to use and maintain brush chipper, chain saws, proper rigging practices, how to operate and maintain trucks and aerial devices.
