Telecom Specialist

R17-233 

Portland General Electric’s (PGE) Communications Services group is seeking a Senior Communications Engineer. PGE is an integrated, investor-owned electric utility with generation, transmission, and distribution operations. The Communications Services group resides within PGE’s Enterprise Telecommunications department and provides mission-critical telecommunications services to operating and corporate support lines of business. PGE’s telecomm infrastructure enables, protective relaying, SCADA, metering, mobile voice communications, and corporate network connectivity.

Experience Required:

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

    • Requires a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, with 2-3 years of telecommunications engineering experience; or combination of 5 or greater years experience in lieu of degree.
    • Working knowledge of utility power and grounding, protective relaying, telemetry, data acquisition, line sharing, devices, line protection equipment.
    • Expertise in communications systems specifically supporting electric utilities preferred
    • Experience in the following technical areas,
      • Inside and outside plant cabling (copper and fiber)
      • Transport technologies (including TDM and WDM)
      • Remote control and monitoring
      • Packet networks (Ethernet, IP, etc …)
      • Digital point to point microwave
      • Private land mobile radio
      • Satellite communications
      • Communications infrastructure (comm rooms, power systems, etc …)
    • Working knowledge of policies, rules, regulations, and codes applicable to telecommunications.
  • There may be required travel within the PGE service area and to its generation facilities. Occasional overnight stays afterhours work may be required. Expected out-of-town travel would be no more than 5% of work time.

Valid driver’s license required.
