Benton PUD is looking for an individual with strong competency and experience in electrical utility distribution line design and project management ready to lead and supervise others in a fast-paced environment with a strong customer focus. Benton PUD is a recognized leader in public power for applying technology to improve process efficiencies and for delivering high customer value. Our customer engineering team is equipped with state-of-the-art GIS based automated design and cost estimating tools. Benton PUD continues to experience significant customer growth in all sectors including residential, commercial and irrigated agriculture. The work is diverse and challenging but our company is small and personal.

Experience Required:

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • AA/AS in  Engineering Technology or related field
  • Five (5) to seven (7)  years related experience in distribution line design including two (2) years in an advanced design or leadership role
  • In lieu of AA/AS, a minimum of  ten (10) years of directly related line design experience or five (5) to seven (7) years of directly related line design experience and an approved job-related certification


Licensing or Certifications:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s license
  • Prefer Staking Certification or equivalent training
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification or obtain within 12 months of hire


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • MS Office
  • ANSI, IEEE, NESC, NEC, and WAC standards
  • Three-phase power system operating principles including system protection, voltage control, transformer connections and line switching fundamentals
  • AC circuit fundamentals including voltage drop and amperage evaluations
  • Fundamentals of customer electric equipment operations
  • Transmission and distribution line design standards and concepts
  • Material and contract labor procurement
  • Project management
  • ALCOA Sag/Tension Program (Overhead line design)
  • OSMOSE (Pole loading analysis software)
  • Poly Water Pull Planner (Underground line design)
