Basic Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced electrical engineer to design and support construction of new electrical substations and upgrades to existing ones. We have a challenging, flexible, positive environment where we balance work/life and produce high quality designs
Provides conventional engineering design services to the District’s electric system in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost effective manner to enable the District to realize its goals and objectives. Plans, organizes, assigns, and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered on assigned tasks. Performs as project leader on medium to large projects and assignments.
Typical project tasks include the following: Prepare substation electrical drawings including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel arrangements for new or existing substations. Design physical bus assemblies, equipment terminations, and specify parts for their construction on drawings and material lists. Procure equipment/material and create purchase requisitions. Prepare project scopes, detailed budgets, schedules, plans and cost estimates. Apply applicable codes and standards such as IEEE, NESC, and NEC when necessary. Prepare RFP’s, review bids and scopes of work to procure services for substation designs. Inspect contractor work and perform contract management and associated project design coordination.
Minimum Qualifications
Engineer – Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering and 4 years directly related engineering experience and FE or EIT; or 6 years related engineering experience and *Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for this job level, “Engineer” OR WA State Professional Engineer License (PE), or ability to obtain through reciprocity and 8 years directly related engineering experience, 4 of which are performed at an electric utility; and, *Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for this job level, “Engineer”
Professional Engineer – Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering, 6 years related engineering experience, with 2 of those years as a Lead or Project Engineer and *Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for this job level, “Professional Engineer” OR 10 years directly related engineering experience five (5) of which are performed at an electric or water utility; and, Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for this job level, “Engineer”
Preferred Qualifications
· Washington State Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain through reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
