Duties:

SHIFT SUPERINTENDENT

Clark Public Utilities is looking for an experienced individual to join our growing and evolving development team.  This position reports to the Manager of Dispatch and is located at the Ed Fischer Operations Center. This position’s responsibilities include supervisory coverage in the Dispatch Center with key responsibilities being emergency response to outages, resource management, and general oversight of Dispatch operations. Working hours are variable 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts to provide coverage including Saturdays and Sundays.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the activities and personnel of the Service Department, including Dispatch, Servicemen, and Line Crews through the following activities:

NERC Standards and Requirements

Provide guidance and expertise to Service Dispatchers with regards to applicable NERC Standards and Requirements as they apply to Clark Public Utilities. May include executing orders, coordinating switching operations, and initiation of appropriate action for the reliability of the bulk electric system.

Switching and Restoration of Service

Approve routine and major switching orders. Plan and direct restoration of services when necessary. Consult with foremen, servicemen, dispatchers and supervisors of other departments when necessary for coordinating outages, system changes or restoration activities. Responsible for the operation of the electric system.

Communications Equipment, Workshift and Vacation Schedules and Work Orders Prepare workshift and vacation schedules for dispatchers and servicemen. Issue work orders and monitor productivity of servicemen.

Budget and Training Activities

Assist with the development of appropriate departmental training and conduct training sessions where appropriate. Investigate and contract with appropriate training companies to provide NERC approved training to obtain necessary CEHs to maintain certifications for the department.

Facilitate, schedule and participate in training activities for dispatch/service personnel.

 

 

Experience Required:

QUALIFICATIONS

Associates Degree preferred with at least five years experience working with a utility’s electrical distribution system. A NERC Transmission Operator (TOP) certification is required (may be obtained within first six months). Demonstrated human relations, management, and supervisory skills required. Current driver’s license and first aid card required.
