Kodiak Island has spectacular scenic beauty, is a sportsman’s paradise, and offers numerous fishing, hunting, and recreational activities. KEA is a progressive and innovative stand-alone RUS generation, transmission, and distribution electric cooperative located on Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska, 252 air miles southwest of Anchorage, serving approximately 6,000 meters. The cooperative is recognized as an industry leader in implementing sustainable, renewable energy solutions with environmental stewardship, and 99.7% of our 2017 generation portfolio came from renewable resources. KEA owns, operates, and maintains a hydroelectric facility, a cutting edge wind farm with a battery bank integrating hydro and wind resources as an integrated renewable generation system, four diesel generator power plants, six substations, and 339 miles of distribution lines. This position is responsible for providing leadership for the engineering department, resulting in efficient, safe and reliable construction, operation, maintenance, and performance of the transmission, distribution and substation facilities of the Cooperative. The Senior Electrical Engineer is one of three senior managers who report to and work closely and collaboratively with the President/CEO. Must have a degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of seven to ten years of senior level electrical utility experience demonstrating progressive and proven transmission and distribution leadership with supervisory experience. Registered Professional Engineer preferred. Working knowledge and experience in transmission and distribution equipment, substation construction, operations and maintenance, system protection, voltage control, metering and automation concepts, RUS, NESC, OSHA, DOT, EPA, utility construction practices, SCADA systems and control schemes is required. Rural experience is a bonus.
