JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Bonneville Power Administration is a federal nonprofit agency based in the Pacific Northwest. Although BPA is part of the U.S. Department of Energy, it is self-funding and covers its costs by selling its products and services. BPA markets wholesale electrical power from 31 federal hydro projects in the Columbia River Basin, one non federal nuclear plant and several other small non-federal power plants. The dams are operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation. About one-third of the electric power used in the

Northwest comes from BPA.

BPA also operates and maintains about three-fourths of the high-voltage transmission in its service territory. BPA’s service territory includes Idaho, Oregon, Washington, western Montana and small parts of eastern Montana, California, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.

As part of its responsibilities, BPA promotes energy efficiency, renewable resources and new technologies. The agency also funds regional efforts to protect and rebuild fish and wildlife populations affected by hydroelectric power development in the Columbia River Basin.

Functional Statement:

This position is located in the Trading Floor (PTF) group of the Bulk Marketing organization within the Power Services business line of the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). The Trading Floor focuses on short-term (less than 24 months) marketing of surplus power, capacity and transmission. This function works closely with Generation Asset Management and Bulk Marketing analysts, schedulers and policy experts to identify and implement policy and marketing initiatives that optimize the value of the Federal Columbia Rivers Project System (FCRPS) and BPA transmission assets for BPA rate payers. Products marketed by this function consist primarily of energy, capacity, transmission and scheduling services, and the policy initiatives include BPA, regional and national forums.

Experience Required:

DUTIES:

As the Public Utilities Specialist you will:

 Serve as the BPA Trading Floor external engagement program manager and lead representative at regional and national policy, regulatory and industry forums.

 Serve as the technical lead for complex marketing initiatives and provides guidance to the BPA Trading Floor of evolving energy market trends and product codes.

 Take a leadership role in identifying and implementing marketing strategies with hydro planning, pricing and scheduling experts that support BPA Trading Floor net revenue objectives and operational requirements.

 International travel may be required and ability to obtain a U.S. passport to attend industry meetings in Canada.

QUALIFICATIONS:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
