Tacoma Power is seeking a Senior Level Manager to lead the Generation Section of the utility and join our senior leadership team. We are looking for someone who is customer focused, has deep industry knowledge, political acumen and strong leadership skills.

Tacoma Power is a municipally owned electric utility serving approximately 170,000 customers across a service area of 180 square miles, and is considered one of three key operating divisions of Tacoma Public Utilities, the others being Tacoma Water and Tacoma Rail. “Community Value First” is our strategic principle and we consider our decisions and prioritize resources and programs based on the impact to our communities and rate payers. Tacoma Power employs approximately 850 employees, more than 200 of which are in the Generation Section.

This position has stewardship responsibility for seven dams with over 700 Mw of generating capacity along with the associated powerhouses, hatcheries, parks, reservoirs and lands owned by Tacoma Power. Engineering, Natural Resources and plant operations and maintenance as well as Tacoma Power’s physical facilities and security are also key functions in the Generation Section.

Responsibilities range from developing relationships and negotiating agreements with governmental and tribal agencies, to ensuring dam safety and regulatory compliance; from hydro license implementation to managing our Generation assets.

Experience Required:
  • Graduation from an accredited 4-year college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Management, or a related field;
  • Six to ten years of increasingly responsible experience leading, managing and supervising staff in a large organization.
  • Utility experience is expected, hydroelectric experience ideal and an advanced engineering degree is desired
