Do you find personal satisfaction from building something from the ground up that will bring real value to a community well into the future?  Are you the type who enjoys solving complex puzzles?  Do you like the idea of being a part of a team focused on your personal success and professional growth, as well as of those we serve?  If any of this resonates with you, this job and Tacoma Power might be the place for you.

Our Rates, Planning, and Analysis (RPA) team is developing an organization-wide Project Management Office (PMO) program from the ground up. We will be crafting resources, tools, processes, and learning opportunities to help project managers and project teams mature the project management discipline across all of Tacoma Power.

In this role you will be joining a team that is truly focused on your success and professional development. This is a cornerstone of our RPA team culture. With the PMO program in the early stages of development, the potential for career advancement opportunities in this role are substantial and exciting.

Tacoma Power is an almost 100% hydroelectric, municipally-owned public power utility, located in Tacoma. We serve approximately 170,000 customers as one of the three operating divisions of Tacoma Public Utilities, alongside Tacoma Water and Tacoma Rail. As one of the most livable, walkable cities in the country, you’ll find that Tacoma is a great fit for all interests with places to bike, run, hike, and explore, the perks of a big city, and the charm of a small town.

“Community Value First” is our Tacoma Power’s strategic principle. We consider our decisions and prioritize resources and programs based on the impact to our customers and community.

Tacoma Power’s Rates, Planning, and Analysis (RPA) team is led by Bill Berry (Section Manager).  RPA focuses on serving the operational sections of Tacoma Power with development and implementation of metrics, best practices, and decision making tools.

As part of RPA’s Construction PMO team, you will work with PMO manager Ryan McLaughlin to develop a successful PMO program from the ground up.

Bill and Ryan strive for a servant leadership philosophy, promoting a culture of trust where ideas for improvements are freely shared in the interest of maximizing value to the customers we serve.  As part of his team, you will have the freedom to share your ideas, thoughts and experiences and will be empowered in our approach to the “puzzles” of setting up this program.

You will interact with staff from all levels of our organization, from executive leaders to our project team members.  You will play a vital role in the development of systems, processes, and tools that will ultimately help support our project manager and project teams across all of Tacoma Power.

As the PMO Analyst you will develop and implement Tacoma Power’s PMO policy and strategy and will support Tacoma Power’s leadership in capital budgeting and decision making. As a champion of continuous improvement for Tacoma Power, you will also support development of reporting capabilities and operational insights throughout the organization to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, and eliminate pain points. You will work cross-functionally to develop a PMO strategy, define and align organization performance metrics to strategic plans, and drive technical/process changes to sustain them.

You must be adept at influencing regardless of level of authority, liaising between the business and technology, and translating disparate data into metrics that support organizational objectives. This includes defining and documenting data sources, identifying supporting technologies, business processes development, requirements gathering and change management.
