Chief Executive Officer

Inland Power and Light Company

Spokane, WA

The Board of Trustees of Inland Power and Light Company is seeking a collaborative and visionary individual with strong interpersonal communication skills to lead the cooperative into the future as their next CEO. Inland Power has retained NRECA Executive Search to facilitate the search process.

Inland Power and Light is a member-owned, non-profit distribution cooperative that provides electric services to 13 counties in eastern Washington and northern Idaho. Based in Spokane, WA, Inland Power is the largest electric cooperative in the state and continues to grow with approximately 44,000 members. The cooperative employs 90 highly talented individuals and lives by the belief that “Our Mission is our Members”.  As such, an appreciation of cooperative values is a key attribute of a successful candidate.

Successful CEO candidates will have a strong background in working in an electric distribution cooperative environment, with a focus on safety and an understanding of power supply issues (particularly Pacific Northwest power supply). If you are a strategic leader with strong decision- making skills and you appreciate the importance of developing a valued team, these characteristics will set you apart from other candidates.

Candidates should have broad electric utility management experience and knowledge including such areas as accounting and finance; electrical engineering, operations and safety; team building, and internal/external leadership. The ability and desire to successfully build external relationships within the region will be a key differentiator in Inland Power’s next CEO.

A bachelor’s degree in business administration, electrical engineering, accounting, finance, or related degree is required. Candidates are required to have at least five years of experience in the electric utility industry with a minimum of 5-10 years of overall leadership experience.

Located on the Spokane River in Eastern Washington, Spokane, WA has a population of 218,000 and is the second largest city in the state within a metro area of approximately 525,000.  Straddling the river, is the city’s University District.   With five major universities, two medical school programs, top-notch community colleges and a nationally-recognized smart city testbed, this is an idea-generation and innovation-focused community to its core.

To add to its appeal, Spokane is close to dozens of lakes and rivers for outdoor sports, hunting, fishing and recreation plus nearby mountains for skiing and hiking. The Spokane area offers a unique ability to live near or in a metro area, while still enjoying the cooperative utility environment.

Inland Power is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Named as one of the 2020 Best Places to Work in the Inland Northwest, the cooperative provides its employees with benefits, resources and compensation incentives to enjoy success both personally and professionally. They offer a NRECA defined benefit pension plan and 401k savings plan. In addition, Inland Power offers a generous medical, dental and vision insurance plan, Health Savings Account contribution and a progressive PTO plan. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applications with cover letter, resume and contract information are accepted until May 3, 2021 and should be submitted via the NRECA Executive Search Career page at https://www.electric.coop/our-organization/careers/.  If you have any questions, please contact Leigh Taylor at 571-326-9547.
