South San Joaquin Irrigation District ((SSJID or District) is currently accepting applications for a Management Accountant.  In this newly created position, under the direction of the Assistant General Manager, the Management Accountant responsibilities include: assistance with annual budget preparation, assistance with annual financial audit, drafting complete financial statements, monthly investment reports, financial planning, cost of service analysis, and a role in implementation of the strategic plan for finance and rates and for the District.  The Management Accountant will also be involved in a variety of special projects that may be only tangentially related to finance and accounting, but which require strong analytical skills.

 South San Joaquin Irrigation District has a history in the Central Valley over 100 years strong.  We are a special district providing a reliable and economical source of water to agricultural users and wholesale treated drinking water to local cities.  SSJID is a multifaceted organization with a long track record of innovation. As a senior water rights holder, the District owns and operates several hydroelectric power plants, dams and reservoirs on the Stanislaus River in partnership with the Oakdale Irrigation District.  SSJID has about 100 employees and revenues that range from $30 million to $40 million annually.  SSJID’s board and management place a high value on organizational excellence and is building a strongly values based employee culture.

The Region

The South San Joaquin Irrigation District is located in San Joaquin County in the middle of California’s bountiful Central Valley.  Within a 2 hour drive or less, lie the coast, the San Francisco Bay area, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and numerous water bodies including the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, and rivers and lakes. The District is primarily agricultural with picturesque orchards, vineyards, row crops, and grazing lands. Surrounded by farmland and open spaces, Manteca, Ripon, and Escalon offer friendly, small-town living with convenient amenities and services.  SSJID is situated between the larger cities of Modesto and Stockton, each about 15 miles away.

Experience Required:


  • Professional knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including GASB
  • Experience with FERC accounting preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent writing ability and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of quantitative methods and ability to perform statistical analysis
  • Ability to train and teach others
  • Ability to prepare and orally present information to project teams, the general public and to the Board of Directors.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting
  • Certified Management Accountant or Certified Public Accountant with an active license to practice issued by any state
  • At least five years of work experience in accounting or finance including electric utility experience (preferred)

Compensation and Benefits: 

 The salary range for the position is $118,400 to $148,000 annually.
