Lane Electric Cooperative (LEC) is seeking a competent and enthusiastic candidate to assume the senior management position of Manager, Finance & Administration (MF&A). LEC (www.laneelectric.com) is a stable and progressive organization serving 13,000 electric consumer/members located in western Oregon. The utility currently employs 48 professionals and has a geographically diverse service area covering 2,600 square miles of Lane County. LEC is financially sound with annual revenue of $27.4 million. The Cooperative is a CFC and CoBank borrower. Most of LEC’s wholesale power comes from the Bonneville Power Administration and the utility is also member of the Pacific Northwest Generating Cooperative (i.e., G&T).
The Manager, Finance & Administration, serves as the CFO and is part of a five-member senior management team that reports directly to the General Manager. This position provides long-term direction for the financial operations of LEC, manages the board of directors’ fiscal policies, and assists in the development of new policies. Duties also include regular reports to the Cooperative’s seven-member board. The position oversees and manages the Accounting Department, Data Management, and Member Service; each area has a supervisor that reports directly to the MF&A.
The successful candidate will be a person of integrity and have proven leadership skills and strong commitment to “Cooperative Principles.” Candidates should have 10 years electric utility experience, preferably within the rural electric program, and at least five (5) years of leadership experience in a senior management position. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, with an emphasis in accounting and finance, is required. An advanced degree and/or professional certification (e.g., MBA, CPA, CIA, CMA) is desirable. However, extensive accounting and finance experience in a senior staff position in related field may substitute for electric utility employment. The MF&A must have a thorough knowledge of RUS or FERC accounting procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), budgeting and forecasting, internal controls, understanding of local, state and federal laws and regulations impacting the electric utility industry, and experience with financial accounting software. A very important responsibility of this position is leading finance and accounting staff in manner that results in exceptional performance. It is also desirable that candidates have an interest to advance within LEC and be considered in the Cooperative’s succession planning.
LEC headquarters is located in Eugene at the southern end of the Willamette Valley. Portland is 100 miles north via Interstate 5. Pacific Coast beaches are an hour’s drive to the west, and the crest of the Cascade Mountains are a similar distance to the east. Both the Willamette and McKenzie rivers flow through the heart of the Eugene/Springfield area. It's an ideal location for those wanting to live in a picturesque area that has an abundance of recreational opportunities. Eugene is also home of the University of Oregon with its availability of education, athletic and cultural resources.
