Wage or Salary:

The Community Relations Specialist assists with business development and communications activities.

Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Works closely with the Manager of Member Experience, local governmental jurisdictions, and economic development organizations to determine future growth areas and opportunities for Kootenai Electric Cooperative.
  • Researches, writes, and drafts content, maintaining appropriate tone and adhering to KEC’s style guide. Evaluates and contributes to a variety of marketing and communications activities to achieve company objectives which could include developing or contributing content or ideas for: email, KEC’s app,  presentations, forms, outage communications, and events.
  • Gathers information relating to new residential and commercial developments, liaising with developer & KEC for terms of electric service contracts, and developing electric service proposals for upcoming projects.
  • Works with KEC Trust Board of directors and provides administrative support to the Operation Round-Up Program.
  • Coordinates sponsorship and donations requests.
  • Works with management, staff, nominating and credentials and elections committees, KEC trust board, and vendors.
  • May represent KEC at business meetings, civic and community functions as appropriate.
  • Adheres to deadlines and established quotas.
  • Participates in and assists with company sponsored events. Works with a team to coordinate events and activities such as the annual meeting, member appreciation event, golf tournament and other company events.
  • Assists with other Marketing and Communications functions, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as directed or required.

Job Requirements

  • Education/Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • One or more years of business development, customer service, communications, marketing, or related experience preferred.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
    • Experience with business development and event planning preferred.
  • Knowledge/Skill
    • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present material in a clear, concise and professional manner and handle communications and situations with tact and diplomacy.
    • Excellent composition, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
    • Understanding of marketing and industry trends.
    • Effectively handles priorities and completes them in a timely manner.
    • Strong computer skills including experience using email, web-based resources, Microsoft Office products, and job-related software.
  • Mental Demands:
    • Must be organized and able to create, concentrate, prioritize, compare, compile, compute, and coordinate.
  • Working Conditions/Hazards:
    • Typically, normal office environment with low to moderate levels of noise exposure and a comfortable temperature-controlled work area with occasional work outside for various events.
    • Attendance at evening meetings required as needed.
    • Must be available for unscheduled work (i.e., outages)
    • Travel may be required
