General Information:  The Journeyman Powerplant Operator is responsible for working in the control room and as a roving operator under the general direction of the chief and/or senior operators at the Wells Hydroelectric Project.  Work shifts will be as necessary to fulfill work schedule requirements and may be on regular scheduled shift or on relief with no regular scheduled shift or work week. The successful applicant must reside within a 30 mile radius of Wells Dam, or establish such residence within 6 months of employment.

Core Duties:

Perform all duties in a safe and proficient manner in accordance with policy and procedure

Start, stop, synchronize and control operation of generating units

Power plant and embankment inspections, facility cleaning

Inspection and Control of auxiliary, ancillary, and miscellaneous powerplant equipment

Regulation of spillway gates and fish facility equipment

Switching of High-Voltage equipment

The Journeyman Operator must comply with safety rules and safe clearance (LOTO–WAC 296-45) procedures, place protection clearance tags, initiate corrective measures in the event of emergency conditions affecting powerplant operations unless relieved of portions of these responsibilities by the chief or senior operator

Experience Required:

Successful applicants must have:

Satisfactorily completed a high school education or equivalent

Completed a three year apprenticeship as a Powerplant Operator or have 3 years previous job experience as a powerplant operator

The ability to communicate with co-workers in a clear, concise, courteous manner

The ability to function cooperatively and work well in a team environment

Capability of following directions and working in compliance with established guidelines

Aptitude with computers, communications systems, SCADA and data processing equipment

Capability of repeated lifting heavy objects, sometimes weighing up to 100 pounds

Must be able to work in a plant environment, able to climb stairs, walk on uneven surfaces

Ability to work outdoors in hot and cold environments

Must have a full range of hearing and sight for personal safety

Must be able to distinguish basic colors

First Aid and CPR card

Current Washington State Driver License
