Duties:

Journeyman Meterman

  • Service, test and calibrate all types of poly-phase and single-phase watt-hour meters.
  • Utilize computers to program and test meters.
  • Field test and shop test all types of meter installations utilizing field test analyzers, load boxes and computer technologies.
  • Field test and demagnetize current transformer installations.
  • Install, test and program meter interface units and metering devices.
  • Troubleshoot all types of meter installations.
  • Operate power tools, multi-meters, voltmeters, ampere-meters, phase rotation meters, phase angle meters, circuit analyzers, etc.
  • Work from ladders rooftops, operate and work from bucket trucks.
  • Keep accurate records and maintain computer database.
  • Develop and maintain metering programs.
  • Receive meter shipments, number meters, record information and update computer records.
  • Use customer accounts and billing systems, material management system and network service systems on a daily basis.
  • Install and/or remove self-contained or CT-rated meters in change out programs.
  • Install and test totalizing equipment.
  • Wire new CT metering installations, review and upgrade CT installations.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Journeyman Relay/Meter Technician

  • Install, add or replace meters, relays, control circuits and telemetering equipment; review drawings and make necessary field corrections.
  • Test and calibrate relays, ammeters, voltmeters, current transformers, gauges, control circuits and other associated equipment. Record and evaluate results. Maintain equipment records.
  • Utilize test equipment and test electrical equipment and systems to determine suitability for service.
  • Accurately record data, repair, adjust or recalibrate equipment, or report condition or status as appropriate.
  • Read and interpret electrical blue prints and schematics.
  • Participate in the crew tailboard discussion and assist the Meter/Relay Foreman in planning each job or days’ work, so the crew can work safely and efficiently.
  • Practice safe procedures, techniques and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Continuously improve skills and become familiar with new technology.
  • Assist in developing predictive and preventive maintenance procedures and maintenance intervals for equipment and systems.
  • Build strong working relationships.
  • Investigate equipment failures and make emergency repairs.
  • Assist in training Journeyman Meterman to Relay level.
  • Document work procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Experience Required:

Journeyman Meterman

This position requires successful completion of a 6,000 hour approved Metering Apprenticeship or equivalent that includes passing the IBEW Exam.

Journeyman Relay/Meter Technician

This position requires successful completion of a 6,000 hour approved Metering Apprenticeship or equivalent that includes passing the IBEW Exam.  One (1) year of installation, testing, servicing and repair of electronic relays and approved Relay courses.

Journeyman Meterman and Journeyman Relay/Meter Technician

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying
