Performs a variety of tasks associated with the provision of electrical service to industrial, commercial, and residential customers in the City of Monmouth. Though this list is not fully inclusive of the duties, a Lineman installs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground electrical lines (live and/or de-energized); constructs new distribution lines; pulls, sags, and energizes conductors; operates heavy equipment and a large variety of hand tools; cleans and maintains equipment, tool, supplies, and materials; install and replaces power poles, transformers, power lines, and other power equipment; installs and removes meters; performs preventive and restorative maintenance on transmission and distribution lines and devices; participates in the building, maintenance and/or renovation of power substations; installs and maintains streetlights; responds to emergency outages or customer service calls and must be able to troubleshoot electrical problems and be able to demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting tools and equipment; locates underground cables; maintains logs and documents related to work performed; performs system repairs; creates construction drawings, etc.; as a member of line crew, performs duties as assigned. Must be able to work competently with minimal supervision. May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule. Must live within 30 minutes commute time of headquarters. May be subject to call out and/or call back.
Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for a Lineman – typically achieved through the completion of an IBEW recognized apprenticeship and the equivalent of three years of directly related experience in electrical utility systems. First Aid and CPR training required. Class A Commercial Driver’s License with DOT medical certification required. Must possess Journeyman Lineman certification – all Lineman at MPL are members of IBEW 125.
