Main responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Installs and repairs electrical distribution line poles, supports, transformers, feeders and other electrical equipment through the system.
  2. Installs and repairs secondary feeders and service drops to electrical consumers.
  3. Inspects electrical systems and equipment to detect and correct faulty or worn out parts.
  4. Installs and repairs transformers, primary and secondary vaults, switching stations, and primary and secondary underground lines.
  5. Reads one-line diagrams, blueprints and schematics to repair and troubleshoot the distribution system.
  6. Pulls conductors through conduit using recommended devices and utilizes proper safety practices. Performs cable splices and terminations on wire and cables up to 5,000 volts following manufacturers’ recommendations.
  7. Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of all components using standard instruments such as meggars, high-pots, multi-meters, high voltage phasers, clamp-on amp meters, rotation meters, and locators.
  8. Works in, near, or on “hot lines” using appropriate equipment and rubber gloving techniques.
  9. Operates a variety of utility vehicles and equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners and reel trailers.
  10. Performs tree trimming around energized conductors using standard department procedures.
  11. Installs, maintains and troubleshoots the street light system.
  12. Assists in the maintenance of various records and reports.

Experience Required:

Required Qualifications include:

    • Journeyman Lineman (Powerline Technician) certificate with Red Seal (Inter-provincial Standard)
    • A valid BC Driver’s Licence – Class 5 with Air Endorsement
    • First Aid CertificatePreference will be given to applicants with a minimum of three years’ experience as a Journeyman Lineman.

Physical testing will be required prior to the final shortlist and interviews as this position requires sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outside.
