Job description

The Fleet Mechanic is accountable for keeping the Inland Power fleet vehicles and support vehicles in good working order. This position troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains fleet vehicles and other production equipment. In addition, Fleet Mechanics maintain documentation accompanying repairs and servicing of Inland Power vehicles. The fleet mechanic position has a range of $33.13 to $45.98 with a scheduled raise between 5% – 8% every six months until employee reaches target of $45.98 per hour.

1. Diagnose, repair and maintenance of both gas and diesel truck engines, suspension, brakes, and other standard vehicle mechanical and electrical systems.

2. Fabricate new equipment and modifications to existing equipment. Repair tools as needed.

3. Diagnose, repair and maintains transmissions.

4. Diagnose, repair and maintains hydraulics on booms.

5. Diagnose, repair and maintains lifts.

6. Exceptional trouble shooting skills and the aptitude to learn various types of equipment.

7. Maintain fleet records including, but not limited to, maintenance work to be done, fuel consumption and spare parts inventory.

8. Demonstrates safety while working.

9. Keeps informed of new and advances in technology by attending workshops and/or classes offered by vendors and technical schools.

10. Provide backup to freight deliveries; use forklift to unload and move freight to storage areas in yard, warehouse and shop.

11. Keeps others informed. Reports and written communications are clear, timely and relevant. Use clear and correct verbal communication to varied individuals or groups. Listen responsively.

12. Enthusiastic team worker, helps others, promotes harmony among fellow workers, team members, supervisors, and members. Responds well to suggestions and criticism. 13. Performs other duties as assigned. Job duties are subject to change as directed by management.

Additional Information:

Minimum Qualifications:

a. High School diploma or equivalent.

b. Completion of a two-year Community College vehicle repair program, or equivalent trade school and/or United States Military training in equipment repairs and maintenance.

c. At least five (5) years continuous experience in the repair and maintenance of large and small vehicles is required.

d. A valid CDL driver’s license with a good driving record is required.

e. Basic computer skills with knowledge in Microsoft Office and effective use of the internet are required.

f. Must possess sound decision-making skills.

g. Must possess and maintain a safe work record.

h. Excellent communication skills and professional appearance.

i. Successful completion of pre-employment physical which includes drug, alcohol, back and knee evaluation/x-rays.

Essential Job Duties: Must be able to lift, carry, push/pull, grasp, handle, reach, apply forces with out-stretched arm away from body, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, twist, climb, stand and walk.

Working Conditions:

1. Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including office, warehouse, yard and community settings with employees.

2. Must be willing and able to accept duty calls at any time of the day or night and in various outside weather conditions.

3. Work requires using equipment that, if not used in the prescribed manner, may cause injuries.

4. Chemicals and other substances are used in this position that, if not used properly and with the provided safety equipment, may cause injuries.
