The City of Tacoma, a diverse, progressive, international port city of approximately 203,446 residents, serves as a gateway to the Pacific Rim and the rest of the world. The City seeks a Human Resources Manager to assist in the administration, supervision, and operations of the human resources staff of Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU) while addressing the specific human resources interests of TPU.

The Human Resources Department provides comprehensive human resource services to support high-performing City operations while serving as advisors and strategic partners for all City managers and supervisors on human resource management, labor relations, risk management and safety, training and organizational development, healthcare benefits and wellness programs, equal employment opportunity, and represents City management on matters brought to the Civil Service Board. Department resources include a staff of 40 employees and a 2015-16 Biennial Budget of approximately $3.1 million (General Fund) and $180.4 million (General Fund and oversight of the Risk and Benefits funds).

Experience Required:

The ideal Human Resources Manager candidate will be an accomplished human resources professional with experience serving in a public utility environment. The ideal candidate will bring a strong customer ethic, and exceptional interpersonal skills to build partnerships, and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.

A relevant Bachelor’s degree and six years of professional experience in human resources, three of which includes supervision or management of one or more human resources functions are expected.
