The City of Redding is establishing an eligibility list for GIS Analyst I/II. The list established as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill a full-time vacancy in the Electric Department, as well as subsequent vacancies that occur during the life of the list in both the Information Technology and Electric Departments. Under direction, incumbents are expected to: operate Geographic Information System (GIS) workstations and software; perform spatial and attribute data creation and maintenance; and perform difficult analytical work related to GIS.

Experience Required:

Knowledge of: Principles, techniques, methods, and nomenclature of: geography, cartography, mapping, map projections and coordinate systems, and operation of GIS workstations and software. Ability to: Operate GIS workstations and software; operate peripheral equipment such as printers and plotters; troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on GIS workstations and peripheral equipment; design, develop, and maintain departmental and city-wide spatial and attribute data; import, export, convert, and transfer mapping and attribute data using the network and the Internet; and communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing. Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying: Typical education would include a Bachelors Degree or equivalent in GIS, Geography, Cartography and/or Computer Science. An Associate of Arts Degree from an accredited college in related courses and two to three years experience may substitute for Bachelors Degree; typical experience would include at least one year of experience in operating, maintaining, and implementing automated mapping or geographic information systems. Special Requirements: Possession of the appropriate valid California drivers license, or ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment; Autocad Map, ArcGIS, Autodesk Mapguide, Microsoft Access, and SQL Server experience is desirable.
