The Board of Directors of Douglas Electric Cooperative invites applications for the position of General Manager. The Board has contracted with NRECA’s Executive Search to facilitate the search process.
Douglas Electric Cooperative (DEC) is a member owned, electric distribution cooperative with 34 full time employees serving 9,800 electric meters with 1,600 miles distribution line in southwestern Oregon. DEC’s service area covers 2200 square miles in western and northern Douglas County, with small portions in northeast and southeast Coos County and south Lane County. The cooperative also has a telecommunications subsidiary, Douglas Fast Net, that has approximately 6,500 subscribers and 50 full-time employees.
Successful candidates are required to have at least 5 years electric utility industry experience and 5 years of leadership experience in a key management position. Additional experience in the telecommunications industry would be an asset for potential candidates. Candidates must be qualified individuals with high integrity and excellent people skills. A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field is preferred. Candidates must possess knowledge and experience in the areas of team building, strategic planning, finance, technology and electric distribution system operations. Understanding the electric utility and telecommunications business and knowing the working relationship between the CEO and the Cooperative’s Board of Directors is important. Knowledge of cooperative principles and applying them within the workplace and community is a plus. It’s highly desirable that new General Manager is in place by January 1, 2018.
