The City of Redding Public Works Department is establishing an eligibility list for the position of Field Foreman – Electrical Technician. Field Foreman – Electrical Technician, under general supervision, plans, organizes and supervises the work of journey-level Electrical Technicians.


NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.


Schedules, directs, and monitors the work of the Electrical Technicians; determines the appropriate materials and equipment needed for completing projects and assignments, and obtains them through the departmental budgets; prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports; supervises assigned personnel; manages the development, implementation and maintenance of City electrical (non-distribution) instrumentation and process control systems, standby power generation systems, supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA), traffic signal equipment; ensures that completed electrical work is in compliance with the initial work orders and applicable health and safety codes; writes specifications for use in bidding and purchasing work equipment for use by the Electrical Technicians; trains assigned employees in job-related areas that enhance job performance and efficiency; organizes and monitors the safety program for the Electrical Technicians; verifies time submitted on employee time sheets; performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience Required:

Knowledge of: Practices and principles of electrical work including, but not limited to, motors and motor controls, instrumentation and process controls, SCADA, telemetry and alarm systems, traffic signals, airport lighting systems, score boards, commercial wiring, industrial wiring and electrical codes; operation and maintenance of the tools and equipment utilized in electrical work.


Ability to: Interact effectively with the public and employees; supervise and evaluate the work of employees; assess material and equipment needs for the various projects and assignments, and determine operational cost; understand the operation of field test equipment; meet the physical demands of field work; communicate concisely and effectively both orally and in writing; diagnose electrical problems; maintain records and write reports.


Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent, with additional course work in electricity and electronics.


Special Requirements: Possession of the appropriate California driver’s license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
