VEA is a dynamic high energy utility focused on an open, connected, interactive team approach to leadership. Innovation, collaboration, respect, trust, communication and non-typical thinking are the trademarks that make VEA a leader in the industry. This is not your “sleepy” electric cooperative; VEA is an independent distribution and transmission system. VEA is also an independent power purchaser leveraging power supply options in the open market.

This opportunity is for an Executive VP with acute organizational skills, financial acumen and the ability to provide strong oversight in order to manage the daily finance and administrative duties of the Cooperative. While keeping VEA’s strategic goals in mind, the EVP will:

  • Develop recommendations regarding organizational structure and staffing, advance and monitor the annual work plan and budget, track progress and costs incurred, and stay informed on the latest trends in order to look for methods to improve the work place.
  • Provide overall support in all areas of finance/accounting, including cash management, internal and external audit, the Cooperative’s accounting system and governmental business filings.
  • Direct the planning and procurement of power resources, including negotiation with existing and prospective power suppliers, conduct power cost studies and provide guidance concerning rate design with financial forecasts and budgets.
  • Direct the Customer Service Department personnel when the need arises in complex situations as well as with customer accounting activities such as member services, billing, collections and capital credits.

Direct reports include the VEA Controller, Manager of Customer Service, Special Projects Administrator and the Executive Administrative Assistant. The Controller of Valley Communications Association, Inc. (VCA), a wholly owned subsidiary of VEA focusing on providing critical infrastructure to communities via fiber-optic and wireless broadband, is also a direct report. Nurturing positive relationships with NRUCFC, CoBank and other organizations will be imperative to further the initiatives of the VEA.

Experience Required:

The successful candidate must have 15 or more years of progressive experience at a cooperative or investor owned utility in supervision and accounting system design in addition to the understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and power supply procurement. Additionally, knowledge of financial statement preparation and reporting to management is vital. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. A four-year degree from an accredited university with a major in finance, accounting or business administration is required. MBA highly preferred.
