This opportunity is for an Executive COO with strong leadership traits, excellent communication skills, that builds trust, focuses on a collaborative team environment and is willing and wanting to be groomed for the CEO position as the present CEO moves into the President position over the family of companies.

As part of the leadership team, the Executive COO will provide advice and assistance on management matters. Key responsibilities include: Planning and Controls, Organizing and Operations. Candidates must have experience with the overall management of a multifaceted communications organization; Responsible for the Cooperative’s broadband business portfolio on competitive entities.  Keep portfolio current and plan actions to be taken when competitive forces indicate need. Assist with the Cooperative’s contact with political bodies as it relates to broadband business.  Keep aware of actions and meetings of elected and appointed officials that are relevant to Cooperative business. Other duties include governance, supporting the Cooperatives legal actions and responses, rates, lobbying and direct or assist with the Cooperative’s portfolio on territorial integrity.

Valley Communications Association, Inc., (VCA), is a wholly owned subsidiary of Valley Electric Association, Inc., (VEA) a nonprofit electric utility headquartered in Pahrump, Nev. Much like VEA did 52 years ago, VCA is bringing critical infrastructure – fiber-optic and wireless broadband – to the communities in its vast 6,800-square-mile service area along the Nevada-California border that were under served by commercial communications providers. VCA is a partner in the long-haul fiber-optic network between Las Vegas and Reno and will expand into VoIP, IPTV, SmartHome and I.T. services in 2017. Pahrump Nevada is located in the southeast corner of Nye County, 60 miles west of Las Vegas and just a few short hours from southern California which includes Disneyland and SeaWorld. Education/Certifications:  Four-year degree is required, MBA desired.

Experience:  A minimum of ten years of community grade communications experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Must have the ability to complete the following: Develop and maintain morale and credibility among Cooperative’s employees.  Conduct information and educational meetings with Cooperative employees.  Prepare reports required by the Board of Directors and CEO.  Counsels subordinates on their activities and problems.  Interpret policies for subordinates.  Attend and participate in appropriate safety meetings.  Ensure that those reporting to him/her observe all safety rules.  Maintain office and assigned equipment.  Maintain a valid Nevada driver’s license and comply with traffic rules and regulations.  Review current literature in his/her field and keep informed of trends, new developments, etc.  Attend and participate in professional and industry meetings, workshops and seminars to share and gain knowledge and information.  Attend and participate in other meetings as a representative of the Cooperative as necessary or directed.

Physical Requirements:  Must have the ability to perform the following physical requirements:  Lift up to 25 lbs. maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as computer printouts, map books, ledgers, small tools, computer monitors, etc., handle objects, talk and hear.  Must have the ability to travel to and from out of state destinations to attend conferences, seminars and attend business meetings.

Math Skills:  Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to calculate algebraic solution of equations, prepare and analyze financial and statistical reports for trends and deviations.

Language Skills:  Must have developed language skills to the point to be able to: Read and understand instructions, safety rules, personnel information, technical journals, manuals, legal reports and briefs.  Write memos, summaries, and reports, using prescribed format, and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.  Participate in discussions and debates.  Speak extemporaneously on a variety of subjects.

Interpersonal Abilities:  Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationship with both internal and external customers.  Requires prompt and predictable attendance in order to ensure uninterrupted service to internal and external customers.
