Homer Electric Association, Inc. is seeking a person to fill the position of Engineering Technician II in the Kenai, AK office. Duties include the design of overhead and underground single and three-phase power lines; field staking, inspections and preparing cost estimates for line extensions, new services and system improvements; maintaining system inventories, record keeping, file maintenance, and finalizing work orders; updating and maintaining system electric maps using GIS software; inspecting distribution lines for compliance, performing periodic maintenance inspections of electrical facilities and preparing work orders as required for maintenance work. Technicians also assist in field survey work for securing rights-of-way and easements for power line as-builts, and locating line extensions and other system facilities. Must be able to work with and around customers.

Experience Required:

Qualified applicants will possess a minimum of two year’s college level surveying education, or equivalent experience.  Two years of general utility experience and the completion of the Line Design Course or GDS HiLine Staking Technician Certification Program may be substituted for college level education requirements.  Prior to hire, or required within 12 months of employment, are a working knowledge of electric utility operations and construction, the NESC and RUS specifications.  Two years of related work experience in the Engineering Tech I classification, or demonstrated knowledge of entry-level 3-phase primary line design and one year in the Engineering Technician I classification are also required.  Two years of field surveying or journeyman electrician, lineman or wireman experience may be substituted for the Engineering Technician I experience.
