Mason County Public Utility District 3 is a community-owned and governed utility providing electric utility service to the people of Mason County, Washington. The county is located on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula, and the main offices of Mason County PUD 3 are in Shelton, the county seat. With over 10,000 residents, the city is the population center and service provider for the region. The area offers residents breathtaking views and world-class outdoor recreation activities. Immediately west of Shelton are the Olympic National Park and the Olympic National Forest.
Mason County PUD 3 serves over 34,000 electric customers with a service area of 567 square miles and runs a wholesale fiber optic telecommunications network which supports the operations of its electrical system. The PUD employs 125 FTE’s and has an operating budget of $63.7 million. Three elected Commissioners govern the utility. The PUD gets virtually all of its electricity from the Bonneville Power Administration. The district operates 11 substations, has 1,082 miles of underground lines, 695 miles of overhead lines and an average load of 73,639kW.
Reporting to the Director of Engineering & Utility Services, the Engineering Manager is responsible for the planning and recommendation of system projects and improvements, providing technical assistance in areas of engineering design, construction and maintenance, and coordinating workflow of the PUD’s telecommunications and electrical distribution systems to meet the district’s customers’ needs and operating efficiencies.
A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering; preferred emphasis in Power. Ten years of substantial experience in engineering planning, design, installation and maintenance with the electric utility industry, with five years in a management capacity is required. A current Washington State Professional Engineer (PE) license; other state PE may substitute but must have ability to acquire a WA State PE within six months of hire. Candidates may possess any combination of relevant education and experience that demonstrates their ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
Salary: $120,360 – $138,420 DOQ. (Potential range: $120,360 – $156,468 DOQ. Compensation beyond $138,420 only for additional responsibilities.)
