Provides conventional engineering design services to the District’s electric system in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost effective manner to enable the District to realize its goals and objectives. This position provides operational support to the Energy Control Center. Responsibilities include same-day and next-day studies, seasonal studies, Regional Reliability Organization data postings, NERC reliability standard support, and providing situational awareness and real-time guidance to on-shift operating personnel. A strong background in power system analysis is required. Familiarity with powerflow and transient stability software and analysis, Energy Management System, Distribution Management System, Outage Management System, Peak RC West-Wide System Model, SOL Methodology, and Coordinated Outage System tools is highly desirable.
Engineer – Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering and Four (4) years directly related engineering experience and FE** or EIT; or 6 years related engineering experience OR Washington State Professional Engineer License (PE), or ability to obtain through reciprocity and Eight (8) years directly related engineering experience, four (4) of which are performed at an electric utility.
Professional Engineer – Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering, Six (6) years related engineering experience, with two (2) of those years as a Lead or Project Engineer and Washington State Professional Engineer License (PE), or ability to obtain through reciprocity OR Ten (10) years directly related engineering experience and Washington State Professional Engineer License (PE), or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
Principal Engineer – Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, Nine (9) years of progressive applicable engineering experience, three (3) years of which are in a project engineer/lead engineer capacity in the electric or water utility engineering field and Washington State Professional Engineer License (PE)
*Note: For the employee who has met the minimum entry education and experience requirements, the additional time required to be proficient in performing the job is six months to one year.
**Note: FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) Certification is recognized by the Washington State board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and is equivalent to an EIT (Engineer in Training).
