Engineer III Meter SCADA Engineer R17-351

Design and program substation metering installations in support of revenue operations, Balancing Authority interchange, Energy Imbalance Market and SCADA. Provide meter engineering support services to field personnel, substation design personnel, meter services and customer service personnel.

You will bring the following skills to our team:

Revenue and Interchange Metering (60%)

  • Provide recommendations, guidance and direction to design staff on project metering requirements.
  • Select substation metering equipment and maintain related design standards.
  • Develop programming and test plans for meter installations.
  • Serve as the focal point for troubleshooting meter issues affecting Network Data Operations (NDO), the Balancing Authority (BA) or the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM).
  • Provide technical guidance to Meter Technicians for commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Make recommendations for improvement in design and work practices, leading improved system power quality.
  • Partner with related departments to ensure proper transmission of accurate data.
  • Ensure metering meets system requirements, applicable codes and regulatory requirements, including NERC/WECC Reliability Standards and OPUC.
  • Monitor the meter maintenance program to ensure compliance and proper documentation.Grid Situational Awareness (30%)
  • Partner with Protection and Automation Engineers to implement synchrophasors in support of Situational Awareness and Smart Grid initiatives.
  • Partner with Automation Engineers to ensure reliable, accurate SCADA metering installations.
  • Partner with Distribution Engineers and Strategic Asset Management to implement technologies that support Smart Grid initiatives such as Conservation Voltage Reduction and Faulted Circuit Indication.
  • Provide recommendations, guidance and direction to design staff on project metering requirements.
  • Provide support to Testing & Energization Engineers and Meter/Relay/SCADA Technicians for testing and maintenance activities.
Experience Required:


  • Typically requires a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A Professional Engineer License is preferred.
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in engineering for utility systems.
  • Proficient oral and written communications skills.
  • Proficient ability to review, evaluate and analyze technical information, policies and reports.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective at building professional interdepartmental relationships.
  • Broad understanding of engineering and economic principles relating utility distribution systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of the applicable policies, rules, regulations, and codes relating to the design and operation of power supply systems.
  • Skill and knowledge in specialized metering software and database management.
