Engineer I/II, Transmission Planning

POSITION PURPOSE

Perform the transmission planning studies and engineering analyses for PGE’s transmission system, and provide technical support/assistance to PGE’s compliance organization and company engineers. Document study results and develop capital improvements consistent with PGE’s asset management strategy under the guidance of the senior transmission planning engineer(s). This position requires ability to use power system simulation software applications. Perform engineering studies for PGE’s transmission and distribution systems, including dynamics and powerflow analyses. Evaluate system performance for the Near Term (years 1-5) and Longer Term (years 6-10) planning horizons and recommend engineering solutions to address reliability/capacity limitations.

 

Experience Required:

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Position requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Desire successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering/economic principles and concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of T&D protection schemes and automation solutions.
  • Basic knowledge of the utility business.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable policies, rules, regulations, and codes in the utility engineering field.
  • Familiarity with utility design standards and work practices.
  • Ability to use power system simulation software applications (e.g. PowerWorld and PSS/E).
  • Must have a valid Oregon driver’s license or the ability to obtain a license.
