We are looking for an enthusiastic and team-oriented accounting professional to engage in meaningful and impactful utility accounting work. This position offers a unique viewpoint into the complex and ever-changing and innovative utility industry, encompassing electric distribution, high-speed broadband, hydro- power generation, and hydrogen fuel production generation. This position will work with a small and supportive accounting team in a work environment that will provides the opportunity to make a difference.

The successful incumbent for this position will be hired within an annualized salary range of $89,500 – 104,432, depending on qualifications for the position. The maximum in this pay scale is $130,539.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to perform professional financial and accounting work. The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of financial transactions and financial reporting. May be appointed by the board to serve as deputy auditor or treasurer, depending on experience.

This position is subject to a one-year probationary period.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·        Perform professional accounting work in support of all District divisions including general ledger, miscellaneous accounts receivable, material inventory, work order and job order accounting, asset management, and tax preparation and reporting. Includes processing the month-end and year-end closing of the District’s accounting modules.

·        Perform professional accounting work including compilation, consolidation, and analysis of financial data to contribute to effective managerial decisions.

·        Prepare financial planning reporting and perform financial analysis.

·        Prepare the monthly internal financial statements and budgets.

·        Prepare the annual financial statements and supplementary information in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

·        Assist with audits by independent financial statement auditors or the Washington State Auditor’s Office.

·        Assist with Federal Single Audits by independent financial statement auditors or the Washington State Auditor’s Office.

·        Assist with treasury and audit functions of the district as needed.

·        Provide financial assistance with legislative mandates.

·        Prepare a variety of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

·        Create miscellaneous billing/payment requests.

·        Deliver research and analysis related to ad hoc managerial reporting.

·       Maximize the value of the District’s accounting software and stay up to date on features that may benefit the District.

·       Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and GAAP through all job duties.

·       Act as a technical advisor for the District’s accounting systems.

·       Ensure accuracy of the District’s accounting systems and recommend solutions to accounting problems.

·       Compile periodic reports or surveys as required by state, federal, and utility-related organizations.

·       Coordinate activities/projects to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial information.

·       Support the District’s mission and value statements in the performance of job duties.

·       Work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse groups of people and maintain professional interactions at all times in the workplace.

·       Ensure compliance with all District policies.

·       Adhere to the District’s Safety Policy and Procedures.

·       Operate District vehicles that may be equipped with a GPS device that monitors vehicle location while conducting business on behalf of the District.

·        Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

·       Working knowledge of GAAP.

·       Must be able to learn and apply the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission uniform system of accounts.

·       An ability to display sound judgement, competence, and accuracy in all facets of work.

·       Strong analytical skills.

·       Ability to use independent and discretionary judgement.

·       Strong oral and written communication skills.

·       Must possess strong organizational skills and be able to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office application products.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. Requires five years of progressively responsible accounting work experience. Must have prior utility accounting experience or significant exposure to complex accounting through previous accounting work history. This may include work experience in public sector or governmental sector accounting, as a CPA with an accounting firm or as an auditor with the State Auditor’s Office. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is strongly preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS:

A valid driver’s license and proof of good driving record is required for this position (will be verified upon job offer). Out-of-state candidates must acquire a Washington State driver’s license within 30 days of employment.

This position is primarily performed in an office setting and requires the ability to perform the following physical activities with or without reasonable accommodation.
