Benton PUD in Kennewick, WA is seeking a Distribution Design Tech I or II to join our team and work with our customers and Engineering and Operations Department personnel to design, develop, organize and coordinate construction of power and Broadband systems in an assigned service area. Experience Required:

Distribution Design Technician I:


  • AA – Engineering Technician or related technical field; relevant technical experience may substitute for degree
  • 4 years experience as an engineering technician, or related field engineering or design experience


  • 1 year AutoCAD Certificate


Distribution Design Technician II:


  • AA – Engineering Technician or related technical field; relevant technical experience may substitute for degree
  • 1 year AutoCAD Certificate
  • 4 -6 years experience as a distribution design technician or field engineer performing electric utility distribution design


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Office
  • Customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • In-depth knowledge of NESC and WAC related to distribution design
  • ALCOA Sag Program (overhead line design)
  • OSMOSE (pole loading software)
  • Poly Water Pull Planner (underground line design)
  • Progressing knowledge of line calculations and other aspects of electrical and Broadband customer engineering

For Distribution Design Tech II:

  • In-depth knowledge of Broadband, such as fiber counts, buffer tube allocations, and other aspects of the technology


Licensing or Certifications:

  • Must posses and maintain a valid WA State driver’s license
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification or obtain within 12 months of hire
