The Director of Operations is responsible for all functions of the Operations Department, which includes line crews, warehouse, equipment maintenance, fleet management, substations, meter shop and the operation and maintenance of the Pasco combustion turbines. The Director of Operations supervises the Superintendent of Transmission and Distribution, Dispatcher, Purchasing Manager, Hazmat Officer, Administrative Assistant, Operations Coordinator, Mechanics, Substation Electricians, and Meter Shop employees. The Director is responsible for safety programs, compliance with DOT, OSHA, and HazMat regulations, and budget preparation and monitoring. The Director of Operations participates in labor/management meetings and local and joint collective bargaining.
Education and work experience: A BA/BS degree in engineering, public or business administration and ten years of progressively responsible work experience in an electric utility environment. Five years of supervisory experience in a union environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Thorough understanding of generation, distribution, transmission and substation systems; metering, management of materials, DOT testing programs for CDL holders, fleet management, legal compliance relating to electrical systems, hazardous materials management, and electric utility safety. Strong management and leadership skills; ability to work in a team environment, mentor staff and to effectively plan and organize. Ability to listen and effectively communicate orally and in writing and make public presentations. Ability to analyze and solve problems conceptually and develop and work within an annual budget
