Primary Purpose
Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, the Engineer directs, guides, and/or assists in the engineering activities of the Cooperative, ensuring the Cooperative’s strategic goals and objectives are met in relation to the design and maintenance of the electric system.

  • Responsible for assisting with the Cooperative’s Long-Range Plan (LRP) and Construction Work Plan (CWP), by communicating with consultants, the Engineering Manager, Operations Manager, and the General Manager/CEO.
  • Works closely with the Engineering Manager to set priorities for construction of system improvements in the current Work Plan, constantly reviews the plan for needed modifications or additions and prepares Amendments as needed.
  • Maintains drawings and necessary material specifications for company construction units.
  • Assists in the development of the annual budget and other studies as affected by the Engineering department. Provides information for budgeting and prepares cost estimates.
  • Directs and/or assists engineering personnel in the preparation of plans and studies relating to sectionalizing, over current protection, device coordination, over voltage protection, voltage improvement, power factor correction, load balancing, and system reliability.
  • Works with Net Metering and renewable energies. Assists in development and implementation of the Net Metering program.
  • Reviews information gathered from monthly substation readings, the SCADA system, the Outage Management System (OMS), engineering and operations personnel, and Cooperative members to pinpoint problems on the electrical distribution system.
  • Obtains estimates from consultants, contractors and/or vendors for needed services or assistance and seeks approval from Engineering Manager.
  • Prepares and submits Federal, State, and County government facilities permits and participates with regulatory organizations requirements and issues.
  • Maintains and updates electric system one-line diagram: making necessary field checks and drafting changes.

Other Duties

  • Participates in the “On-call Supervisor” duty on a rotating basis.

Supervisory Responsibility

Work Environment
This position is exposed to external weather conditions including rain sleet, snow, etc., as well as varying degree of cold and hot temperatures. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands
This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Will be required to walk on uneven terrain and drive company vehicles daily. Exposure to extreme weather conditions will be experienced.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and typical work hours are Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative operates on a four/ten work schedule.

Travel
Ability to travel to the different district offices required. Occasional travel to training seminars and/or conferences.

Qualifications
Engineer I (Grade 10)

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from ABET accredited educational institution.
  • Passed F.E. (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam, or ability to pass within 12 months of hire.
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and insurability.

Engineer II (Grade 12)

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from ABET accredited educational institution.
  • Passed F.E. (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam, or ability to pass within 6 months of hire.
  • Five years of related professional experience.
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and insurability.

Engineer III (Grade 15)

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from ABET accredited educational institution.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Five years of related professional experience.
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and insurability.

Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software.
  • Excellent working knowledge of personal computers with Windows 10.
  • Milsoft system analysis experience.
  • GIS experience.
