Jefferson County, pop. 30,000, is located on the Olympic Peninsula in western Washington. Port Townsend is the only incorporated city in the county and is the county seat. Port Townsend is a spectacular Victorian seaport designated as a National Historic Landmark and famous for its Victorian Homes Tour, and Wooden Boats and Rhododendron Festivals. The city has a population of approximately 9,300, though the city’s spectacular festivals, art galleries, other unique attractions bring over a million visitors each year. Jefferson County is also home to the beautiful Olympic National Park, which includes Pacific coastline, the Olympic Mountains, and a temperate rainforest.
Jefferson County Public Utility District No.1 currently provides water, sewer, electrical and whole telecom services to eastern Jefferson County. The PUD has approximately 18,500 electrical meters, 4,200 water meters, and 400 sewer customers. Headquartered in Port Hadlock, the PUD has 43 employees and an annual budget of about $33 million. The PUD is served by a board of three elected commissioners.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will be responsible for the overall management of the PUD accounting system, including, but not limited to, fiscal policies, cash management, process improvement, internal controls, financial reporting, annual audit, and special projects, and will work to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, codes and/or standards.
