NW Natural offers a Code Compliance Senior Manager opportunity to interested applicants.  The following is a summary of the position specifics.


Purpose of Position:

Primary responsibility for the operational regulatory compliance of NW Natural.

Position Essential Functions:

  • Manages the interface with state and federal pipeline safety regulatory authorities, and maintains a good working relationship with regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures the Company takes appropriate action related to changes in pipeline safety regulation.
  • Negotiates resolutions with state and federal pipeline safety authorities regarding incidents, code violations and other safety related issues.
  • Manages the pipeline safety auditing process (from pre-audit preparation and planning to post audit feedback).
  • Works with industry organizations to review and comment on proposed pipeline safety regulatory changes.
  • Supports pipeline safety programs such as System Integrity programs to ensure the long-term safety of company facilities.
  • Manages staffing needs, participates in employee selection keeping EEO and Affirmative Action goals in mind.
  • This position may require travel.

  • Participate as a subject matter expert for external audit preparation, data gathering in order to demonstrate compliance.
  • Adheres to and promotes the philosophies and directives of the NW Natural’s collective bargaining agreement.
  • Develops, trains, and mentors individual and team members with documentation and ongoing performance feedback; recognizes accomplishments and provides cross-training opportunities when applicable.

Salary Range: 

$98,300 – $120,400 – $142,550 (Grade 23) depending on qualifications

Experience Required:

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related discipline, or the equivalent combination of related education, technical training or experience.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of utility experience in the same or similar role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering standards and compliance requirements, specifically CFR 49, part 192.
  • Demonstrated high-level project management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction activities.
  • Proven ability to build consensus and trust across disciplines and processes as demonstrated through inter- and intra-departmental team-building, collaboration, facilitation and project coordination.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and reasoning skills through effective oral and written communications, research and analysis, technical documentation and report preparation and presentations.
  • Process oriented, with proven record of moving easily between detail and strategy while innovating and influencing within and across processes and/or disciplines.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills with a record of effectively setting, managing and achieving performance goals and targets, including the coaching and development of employees.
  • Integrative thinker who uses inclusive communication techniques to incorporate diverse opinions and points of view into workable, comprehensive solutions.
  • Proven success in facilitating and coordinating multiple projects, resources and personnel; skill in organizing and managing time effectively to meet deadlines and balance priorities.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and creative thinking skills; ability to define problems, develop and present recommendations, organize information, and identify alternative solutions.
  • Skilled in process design and improvement.
  • Proficient in work management and MS Office or similar technology, including spreadsheet, word processing, and project management.
  • Possess and maintain a valid OR/WA driver’s license, any required certifications and/or endorsements and satisfactory driving record.
