Position Description
Tacoma Power’s Power Management division is looking for a Senior Power Analyst to join their team.

As a Senior Power Analyst, you will help navigate Tacoma Power’s path into the future. This is a time of unprecedented change for electric utilities. New technologies, clean energy policies and changing markets are shifting the energy landscape and presenting new opportunities and challenges. Despite all of these changes, one thing remains constant: Tacoma Power will need to make sure it can keep the lights on and keep rates low. Your work will be instrumental in ensuring that Tacoma Power can continue to provide customers with clean, low-cost and reliable power into the future, regardless of what the future holds.

In this role, you will:

Model: Collaborate in the development, operation and refinement of the models we use to assess the benefits and costs of key long-term decisions (resource acquisition, market participation, etc.) under various scenarios of the future.
Analyze: Analyze and interpret data and modeling outputs and provide meaningful explanation of results.
Advise: Serve as a subject matter expert within areas of expertise and provide technical guidance and support to team and staff in other groups.
Collaborate: Contribute your ideas to the team. Present results and recommendations to peers and management. Participate in discussions in regional forums.
Qualifications

An equivalent combination to:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in engineering, economics, finance, data science, statistics or a related field AND
Five years of increasingly-responsible experience in system design and operations, planning, engineering, energy policy or economics.

 

Knowledge & Skills

We are looking for someone with some or all of the following:

Strong investigative and exploratory skills
Experience performing quantitative analytical work (economic analysis and modeling, forecasting, financial planning or analysis, etc.)
Deep knowledge of power system economics, wholesale energy markets and/or energy policy
Ability to present technical information clearly and concisely
Previous experience with Integrated Resource Planning or wholesale power marketing
Data visualization skills (Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
Experience successfully leading analysis projects
Experience with script-based data analysis tools (Python, R, SQL, Matlab, etc.)
Excellent writing skills
