ASSOCIATE ENGINEER – ENERGY RESOURCES
Salary DOQ ($62,450.04 to $93,675.06 annually)
The Merced Irrigation District (MID), located in California’s agriculturally-rich Central Valley, is the leading provider of clean, affordable irrigation water for its 2,200 growers. The District is also the 20th largest electric public utility in the State, supplying electric service to over 10,000 commercial, industrial and residential customers in Eastern Merced County. The District also owns Lake McClure and Lake McSwain and operates five recreation areas adjacent to these facilities. Lake McClure, on the Merced River, is formed by New Exchequer Dam, a rock filled dam with a reinforced concrete face. At the base of the dam is a hydroelectric generation facility with a capacity of 100 MW of power. MID also owns and operates the McSwain and Merced Falls hydro plants with 9 MW and 3 MW of installed capacity downstream from Exchequer. MID is within two hours of San Francisco, Sacramento, Monterey and Yosemite.
Under the general direction of the Manager of Electric Engineering and Operations, manages individual projects, tasks and/or assignments, prepares and monitors project budgets, and other related engineering tasks. Assists the Senior Planning Engineer with ongoing management of FERC, NERC and WECC compliance issues as well as CEC, CARB TID and CAISO analysis, reporting and data management. Supports other MID departments including electric and hydro operations, maintenance, business development, public benefits, customer service and finance, as necessary.
MID is seeking an experienced Engineer to serve as Associate Engineer in the Energy Resources Department. This position will report to the Manager of Electric Engineering and Operations and performs professional field and office engineering work; manages individual projects, tasks and assignments, prepares and monitors project budgets, encroachment of rights-of-way and other related engineering tasks.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience as a practicing engineer with background in electric power system engineering and operations or power plant operations. Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or other related Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university is required. California registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT), or the ability to acquire within one year of employment is also required. Working knowledge of engineering production and design software including MS Word, Excel, Projects. Skills in GIS, Google Earth and CAD related software preferred.
