The City of Redding’s Electric Utility invites your interest for the position of Assistant Director of Electric Utility – Utility Operations
This is truly an exciting opportunity to live and work in one of the most beautiful areas on the West Coast. The City of Redding’s Electric Utility is conducting a national search for a highly experienced professional in Utility Operations to lead and advance the Redding Electric Utility (REU) in managing the Utility Operations Division. The Division includes the areas of transmission/distribution engineering, service planning, power line and substation construction, electric system inspection and maintenance of the 6-unit, 183 megawatt Redding Power Plant, drafting and related technical support, including the operation of the City’s power plant and distribution facilities.

Knowledge of: Electric utility engineering and operating practices, power system planning; designing electrical power facilities (transmission, substation, and distribution lines and power projects); system protective relaying and control; power systems analysis; utility agreements/contracts; operation and maintenance practices and procedures; labor relations; utility safety regulations and practices; budget preparation; electrical power theory; high-voltage equipment used in generating, transmission, and distribution of electrical power; power plant permitting requirements; hazardous-waste laws and regulations; reliability compliance requirements; NEC, NESC, NERC, GO 95, GO 128, GO 165, ANSI, IEEE, ASTM, NEMA, TITLE 8 (OSHA) codes & standards.
Ability to: Interact effectively with the public and employees. Supervise a wide range of professional, technical, and trade craft employees; think logically and communicate effectively in both orally and in writing; demonstrate highly developed skills in electric utility management, organization and supervision; perform professional analytical, technical skills in electric utility engineering and operational analysis.
Education & Experience: Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance; typical education would include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field, from an accredited college or university. Typical experience would include ten years of total combined relevant electric utility experience in power systems operations and design, engineering, system maintenance and management, equipment application, and management. Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
