Ed Prilucik Chosen for 2021 NWPPA Career Safety Award

Planning Committee have selected Energy Northwest’s Edward (Ed) Prilucik for the association’s 2021 Career Commitment to Safety Award.

Prilucik was the industrial safety program manager at Energy Northwest from 2006 until his retirement on December 20, 2020. He spent a total of 32 years at Energy Northwest working as the voice and face of industrial safety, always wearing a bright green-yellow safety vest and hardhat.

“Ed was always ready to respond and answer tough questions,” said Anna Markham, public affairs supervisor for Energy Northwest. “His leadership, commitment to safety, and doing what’s right, even when no one was watching, was the benchmark for industry excellence and is what Ed embodies. Ed was a great mentor to many at Energy Northwest and his unwavering commitment to doing what’s right and demanding excellence will continue in his absence.”

With Prilucik’s leadership, Energy Northwest’s safety performance has been recognized by business and industry groups. The Association of Washington Business honored Energy Northwest with a Better Workplace Award for safety in 2014. In addition, Energy Northwest received four first-place safety awards from NWPPA since 2015, and seven first-place safety awards from APPA since 2011.

The Career Commitment to Safety Award focuses upon the importance of safety in the utility industry. It recognizes one individual each year that has outstanding proficiency in safety; demonstrated leadership in safety in his or her utility and the industry; and has made a significant contribution to safety within the industry over his or her career. This award is open to all employees of NWPPA member utilities that exemplify outstanding commitment and leadership in safety.
