​This one-day class is designed to teach the skills required to enter secure areas. The course covers federal regulations related to entering a secured area; minimum approach distances or clearances; personal protective equipment; job briefings; substation entrance procedures; and opening pad-mount transformers, switchgear, and metering compartments. Employees typically open and/or view electrical equipment in secured areas to take information off of nameplates, readings from meters or gauges, etc. Following OSHA 1910.269, this course does not teach or certify a person to work on electrical equipment. Director competencies covered in this course include protocol and practices, policy development, board accountability, the board/manager relationship, risk management and oversight, industry principles and concept, cooperative principles and practices, member focus, self-awareness/continual learning, respect and appreciation of differences, and integrity and courage.
