Tacoma Power is seeking candidates with strong quantitative skills to join our Power Supply Planning Group. We currently have several positions available ranging from entry to senior-level.

The duties of these positions include financial and economic analysis, statistical modeling, and forecasting to support long-term resource planning including analysis of power supply generation and conservation resources. Candidates should expect to work in a results oriented environment where the quantitative analysis they provide will form the basis of important strategic decisions. These positions will interface with a diverse group of professionals charged with the operation of Tacoma Power’s power supply portfolio. To flourish at Tacoma Power, the candidate should prefer to work in a cooperative, team-oriented environment. Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, engineering, mathematics, or statistics, with a strong preference for an advanced degree. Creativity, dedication, and excellent verbal communication and writing skills are required for all levels. For the senior level position, five or more years of utility or energy industry related experience is preferred. Senior- level candidates should possess the capability to independently scope and design quantitative analysis studies to address complex strategic issues. Experience using statistical analysis computer programs such as SAS and advanced capability with Microsoft Office Suite products such as Excel and Visual Basic is desired. Experience using industry specific applications such as Aurora XMP and VISTA will be considered a plus.

Relief Powerhouse Operator

The City of Ketchikan, Alaska d/b/a Ketchikan Public Utilities seeks qualified applicants for Relief Powerhouse Operator located at S.W. Bailey Powerhouse.

This is an exiting position responsible for the SCADA control and dispatch of KPU's electrical generation/transmission/distribution system. The schedule is five eight-hour days, with two days off. Shift work may be required. Electrical system includes four hydroelectric facilities and two stand-by diesel plants.

Prefer experience in: real-time system operations including electrical system despatch; outage restoration; and answering customer service calls during utility non-business hours.

Specific job duties include: control all system generation utilizing SCADA and/or manual control; maintain constant monitoring of instruments to monitor machine and system load information; and dispatch units to match system load requirement ensuring units are operating at optimum conditions. $32.68 per hour plus benefits.

Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Must be proficient in the creation, formation, and revision of documents using Excel, Access, and Microsoft Word in a Windows environment. Five (5) years experience as an operator required, or related job experience, with emphasis on instrumentation and metering. Must be able to obtain a valid Alaska drivers license.

Ability to perform leading research, development, testing, and deployment of power systems, using existing, emerging or newly created technologies for a wide range of government and commercial clients.

Ability to apply extensive expertise in application of principles, theories, and concepts in development of complex engineered systems.

Maintain awareness of potential sponsors and their current objectives and funding levels. Ability to lead proposal efforts individually or with teams to develop new business with internal and external customers.

Ability to negotiate project requirements, to assemble teams, to produce and test solutions, and to provide necessary documentation. Lead reviews of requirements, designs, codes, and documentation. Manage program/project scope, performance measures, schedules, and budget for assigned projects.

Ability to provide excellent leadership, communication and technical skills to ensure clear expectations are negotiated with customers and executed by the project team.
