BPA is looking for a self-starter with solid project management and collaborative building and analytical skills to develop and manage a multi-year, smart grid demonstration project using a wide variety of electric demand-side, distribution, and transmission tools, to explore, document, and demonstrate means to increase reliability of the electric grid. The ideal candidate will be able to take a vision and build a demonstration to achieve that vision. As the Smart Grid Project Manager, you will:
- In collaboration with both BPA staff and external organizations throughout the Northwest, develop the vision for a Smart Grid demonstration project and set collaborative strategies to plan and implement the demonstration.
- Serve as direct liaison in initiating contact with prospective allies - arrange meetings with utility and other organizations to encourage and negotiate partnership agreements.
- Serve as the project manager for the smart grid project – develop and implement workplans, develop and manage budgets, schedule and insure deliverables are met on time and on schedule.
- Conduct technical analysis as needed.
- Develop and lead the smart grid collaborative.
- Serve as Agency expert on smart grid technologies and strategies and on the integration of demand-side management with grid operations.
- Communicate Smart Grid program/project objectives and incentives to prospective allies.
- Solicit and negotiate participation of key market players such as equipment and controls manufacturers.
- Maintain solid written and verbal communications with stakeholders, EE management, Technology Innovation, and staff as needed.
- Research and provide benchmarking results to EE management regarding other entities that currently are planning on implementing Smart Grid Programs.
- In collaboration with Energy Efficiency Evaluation Lead and sector leads develop quantified and qualified measurements for evaluation purposes and regularly meet to provide feedback to improve measurements.
- Contribute to annual assessments of Smart Grid Program.
- Write and produce reports on BPA Smart Grid activities and communicate those results to interested parties.
- Give presentations at relevant conferences and meetings.
BPA’s Energy Efficiency department (EE) fosters and promotes the efficient use of energy by working with allies and partners. EE currently spends roughly $80 million per year on energy efficiency and an increasing amount on RD&D per year. EE staff administers BPA’s conservation acquisition contracts, provide technical and administrative support for BPA’s energy efficiency activities, and produce and deliver energy efficiency programs, products, and services. While Energy Efficiency will have lead in planning and implementing a Smart Grid demonstration project, many other departments and organizations in and outside of BPA will have to be integrated into planning and implementation activities. The Planning and Evaluation group within EE conducts market research, evaluations, policy and technical analysis and planning for EE’s efficiency programs, products, services, and initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Desirable candidates must have, at a minimum, one year of project or program management experience in at least one of the following areas: Demand Response (including load management, direct load control and bidding), smart grid, electric energy efficiency or electrical distribution system efficiency.

The PSE System Operations group is currently looking for a System Operator Training and Standards Consultant (Job #2974) to be responsible for the development, maintenance and administration of the System Operator Training Program. In addition, this position is responsible for the development and maintenance of switching standards, Standard Operating Practices, and improvements and modification recommendations for the computer equipment used in System Operations.
The System Operator Training and Standards Consultant provides First Aid, CPR and AED training; and Community Emergency Response Training for PSE personnel. This position works closely with the Safety department in investigating, tracking, developing and distributing reports and analysis of safety related issues or incidents. This role will also participate as a member of numerous committees and will be advising other departments in the company, so a successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of people including management and representatives from various departments while being able to earn the trust and respect of the System Operators who control most of the equipment on the electrical power system.

Primary Duties:
Conducts preventive maintenance and overhaul of hydroelectric generators; turbines, and associated machinery. Analyzes and diagnoses problems, disassembles, machines unavailable parts, reassembles, reinstalls, tests and adjusts to factory specifications.
