High Voltage Electrician

The Presidio Trust is a Federal government corporation that manages and protects the Presidio of San Francisco as part of the National Park System. The Trust is now accepting applications for the following Federal excepted-service position. 

Performs journey-level high voltage electrician work in construction, maintenance and repair of high voltage systems and related systems for commercial buildings and residences. Duties include wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as pad mounted transformers, generators, vacuum or air switches, substation circuit breakers, loadbreak elbows and junctions, KWH meters, insulators and other related equipment and hardware;  inspection of overhead and underground circuits to identify faulty or worn parts, maintaining, repairing and overhauling if necessary; working on energized or de-energized circuits to maintain or repair high voltage electrical equipment and systems; operating portable tools; installing primary and secondary underground cables in conduit and stringing or resagging overhead conductors; using testing equipment such as dielectric tester (Hypot), meggar, impulse generator, phase sequence meter, phase rotation meter, high voltage phase meter, multi-meter, and transformer tester; terminating and splicing high and low voltage cables utilizing hand taping and pre-molded splice kit (cold or heat shrinkable); operating substation circuit breakers and relays from 4160 to 12000 volts; inspecting wiring and fixtures for conformance to specifications or electrical codes; installing single and three phase kilowatt hour meters and interpreting readings; and using proper safety apparatus, including hot sticks, rubber blankets, line hoses, rubber gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection and safety shoes.  Full time position with benefits.

Requires high school diploma and completion of a certified electrical apprenticeship program or five (5) years of verifiable journey level high voltage electrician experience of which three (3) years must be in the installation, maintenance and operation of high/medium voltage distribution systems; a valid California Class B driver’s license, confined space entry certification, first aid/CPR; and ability to regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.

Protection & Control Electrician I or II (City Light – 25)

Primary Duties:
Conduct protective equipment commissioning by test circuits, protection schemes, perform operational tests on the protection system, and verify implementation with blueprints, schematics and manuals. Inspect, test, calibrate, and repair relaying circuits, relays, control circuits or load-measuring equipment in generating plants and substations according to routine maintenance schedules.

Required Qualifications:
Four years in a high voltage electrical apprentice classification or program working under a journey level electrician with at least one year of experience working on 2200 volt or higher equipment, or electrical journey level standing with at least one year of experience working on 2200 volt or higher equipment. Protection & Control Electrician I incumbents must meet minimum qualifications for and pass the Protection & Control Electrician II exam within two years of appointment. Current driver's license. A "complete" five-year driver's abstract must be submitted on request (regular employees are excluded from the driver's abstract requirement).

Journeyman Electrician

Located at Swan Lake Hydro Plant, a remote site accessible only by floatplane or boat. The schedule is eight ten-hour days, with 6 days off. Transportation by floatplane provided between Ketchikan and site at the beginning and ending of work period. Pleasant, single-family 2 bedroom houses provided at the site. Modern, well appointed plant, excellent working conditions.

Prefer experience in: Trouble shooting and preventive maintenance of electrical equipment and instrumentation pertaining to all aspects of hydroelectric plant and supporting facility. Maintenance and installation of solid state protective relaying, programmable logic controllers, voltage regulation, exciters, use of computer controlled test equipment Experience with Woodward governors a plus.  $32.68 per hour plus benefits.

Requires high school diploma or equivalent.  Must have, or be able to obtain, an Alaska Journeyman Electrician Certificate of Fitness, and a minimum of five years experience.  Must be able to obtain a valid Alaska Driver's License.
