In June of 2007 the Northwest Public Power Association (NWPPA) formed a new committee focused on opening a dialogue on regional energy issues with the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) and its members. Bob Titus, City of Ellensburg, WA is the chairman of this new committee – the Western Energy Resources Committee (WERC).
At the NWPPA board’s direction, this Committee is engaging the WGA to provide public power’s input on its various energy initiatives and increase NWPPA’s presence in regional energy issues.
The WGA passed Resolution 07-16, Transitioning the West to Clean Energy and Energy Security that seeks to advance the goals outlined in the Clean and Diversified Energy Advisory Committee Report.
Position Papers
In response to recommendations and to WGA’s Resolution 07-16, position papers have been created by the WERC and approved by the NWPPA board that addresses the following issues:
These position papers include a box at the top of the page that provides key messages to Western Governors. They then provide WGA’s positions from Resolution 07-16, Transitioning the West to Clean Energy and Energy Security, and the Clean and Diversified Energy Advisory Committee Report. Relevant NWPPA points follow the WGA positions and reference existing NWPPA resolutions in explaining NWPPA positions. Lastly, there is a reference to WGA Management Directives in its Resolution 07-16 that offers NWPPA members as a resource for workshops, reports, seminars, etc.
All papers include responses to WGA positions that stay within the context of existing NWPPA resolutions.
